Family
I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and member of a large extended family. I grew up in a culture where family is what mattered most and I was immersed in the daily telling of stories about people, present and past. As a child, this fed my innate fascination with people and later led me to pursue a career as a social worker and therapist. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with people of different ages and cultures, and with people with disabilities, who have all been my best teachers. For the past fourteen years I have worked to support children in foster care who have experienced complex trauma.
You are your story
I'm interested in people’s stories and in your story - what has happened to you and what you'd like to see happen. I’m interested in helping you find your voice, feel that connection, honor who you are, and clarify what’s important. If you are feeling stuck I want to help you get unstuck.
Experience
My years of life experiences add to my insight as a therapist. I am interested in working with people who are struggling with a life transition (such as job loss, divorce, marriage, getting older - each with its own unique set of complexities). I like working with children, as well as adolescents and adults, sometimes incorporating sandtray and art therapies because we just can’t always express verbally what we need to work through. I’m interested in animal-assisted therapy because for some it can really help with relaxation and trust to help achieve openness and insight. I also incorporate mindfulness activities as well as CBT and DBT techniques. The therapeutic approach we use will depend upon your needs and your preferences.
